Task Negative is the collaboration name of visual artists Jiwon Rhie + Sam Sundius.

 

Sam and Jiwon’s collaborative work investigates boundaries, time, and relationships to land and nature. Their first collaboration, "Moments," was a temporary outdoor installation on Governors Island in October of that year.

Jiwon Rhie is a Korean multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the ideas of boundaries, human relationships, and cultural identity through variegated art mediums. She holds a BFA from Hongik University, Hannam University, and an MFA at Pratt Institute. Rhie is a 2021 Bronx Museum AIM Fellow and was awarded AHL – T&W Foundation Contemporary Visual Art Award and Queens Art Fund Award by The Queens Council on the Arts. Her works have been exhibited throughout the US and she has participated in residency programs at 4Heads AIR (Governors Island, NY), NARS Foundation (Brooklyn, NY), and the Vermont Studio Center (Burlington, VT).

Sam Sundius is a project-based visual artist using installation, fiber, and text to investigate concepts of governance and inheritance within the white supremacist patriarchy. Sundius has a BA in Studio Art from Hunter College and has studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) in Paris and at the Art Students League in NY. Their work has been shown around NY, including at the Hudson Valley Museum of Contemporary Art, the Governors Island Art Fair, and at protest rallies. They are two-time Artist-In-Residence at 4heads Governors Island and have been recognized for a City Artist Corps Grant and a Queens Art Fund New Work Grant.
